Easter Holidays

Hi everyone, and welcome to another post from your favourite Méribel blogging ski instructor. Pretty much the Easter Holiday period (with the British market) has come to an end. There are still many visitors coming to Méribel however, with the ski lifts staying open for another week. With Easter being relatively early this year, it proved to be a popular time with skiers, especially those who love skiing in warm sunshine.

I was busy teaching the week before the Easter weekend, with regulars Team Harrington. We had another fabulous time, and did our best with the mixed weather conditions. One of the highlights of the week was popping across to Val Thorens, having a ski around, and then we visited La Grotte (the cave) just below the top of the Peclet ski lift. This season could be a one off with this spectacle, I suspect this part of the glacier will transform over the course of the coming summer.

During the week, we had several 'Pistes du Jour', whether they were only discussed in person, or sometimes published on my Twitter (X) account. The Telephone black piste above Courchevel 1850 was one of these, and you can see why in this photo. It was beautifully groomed first thing in the morning.

Over the course of the Easter weekend, we experienced very high southerly winds. This meant we almost had two and a half days where the ski lifts were closed because it was so dangerous. It's not unusual to have ski lifts closed for short periods because of wind, but for this length of time it was quite unprecedented. Thankfully, Sam and her family travelled on the final day of the lift closure. In fact we received a tiny top up of fresh snow early that week, a nice reward after sitting out the wind.

Sam continued to build her confidence on the green pistes above Méribel-Mottaret and Méribel Centre. And we also had a couple of mornings exploring the green pistes above Courchevel 1850, a nice change of scenery for Sam.

And in between the periods of warm spring weather, any little fresh snowfall was very much appreciated.

My teaching for this winter has finished. And it's now time for some rest and recovery, alongside some 'Me Time'. Apparently this winter was the third warmest in the French Alps since records began. However if you managed to come out skiing this year, I hope you all had a fabulous time, irrespective of this fact. I'll try and post again before leaving Méribel in a couple of weeks time.
