It's Nearly Here

Hi everyone, and welcome to the latest post from your favourite blogging Méribel ski instructor. The snow conditions remain good, the sun keeps on shining and it's chilly at night and during the day. I've had an absolute blast this week since I last posted, with several long mornings ski guiding the Neumann family from Connecticut in the USA, and many teaching sessions with Debs and the Giraffe (Stuart's nickname apparently) from Sussex my home county. So all good then. That's all I'm going to mention about last week, except for one significant subject..........

Whilst people's ski holidays continue, and many of us in resort plug away with our daily routine, there's something rumbling on in the background. Something huge, perhaps even the biggest thing to have happened to the resort in its history. Méribel seems to be getting used to what's going on down at Chaudanne, the main ski lift hub of Méribel.

If you are a fan of skiing in Méribel and Courchevel, I'm guessing that you might be aware by now that the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships is about to take place. In fact starting in just a day or so. Nothing like this has been staged here before. Granted, the 2015 FIS World Cup Finals were pretty big, and some of the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics, but this is up another notch.

You wouldn't believe the amount of work that has taken place over the last few months, especially the last couple of weeks. I'm no event specialist, but my goodness I'm staggered at what goes into creating such a spectacle. I haven't been over to Courchevel recently to see their equivalent yet. It's all huge. There's no doubting that the Championships will look amazing on the telly, and also for those lucky enough to be here in person.

The opening ceremony takes place this Sunday evening at Courchevel Le Praz. With the first skiing event on Monday here in Méribel, the Women's Alpine Combined starting at 11am local time.

And if you want to keep in touch with the race results, the FIS website will do you proud, here's the link. I'll be ski teaching as normal, but will be hoping to catch a glimpse whenever possible. The French school holidays start this weekend, so there should be quite a buzz in resort. This means plenty going on, and I believe another torchlight descent mid-week.
