Méribel's Snowy Winter Wonderland

Posted on
December 30, 2017

Hi everybody, and welcome to the latest blog post direct from a very snowy Méribel. I had planned this post to be about ski technique and psychology. But to be honest, I've been totally distracted by the amazing snow conditions and landscapes of late. I'm sure most people even vaguely interested in the sport of skiing have probably heard through the social media grapevine that there has been heaps of snow this winter already. As a ski instructor, I'm normally teaching up on the mountain during these epic conditions, so it is very rare for me to have any spare time off skis and enjoy the scenes with my camera in hand around Méribel.

Going for a walk up the quaint Route des Chalets is a must in these conditions.

You know how you often see magazine photos, or postcards, of ski resorts buried under blankets of fluffy snow - and you think "Yeah, right, that's not normal!" And I can't blame you, however, this is exactly what it is like at the moment. I can't remember when the last time was that we last saw Méribel looking this picture postcard gorgeous.

And the thing is, it is still only December! How remarkable these scenes are compared to the last few winters at this stage of the season. Granted, sometimes we are lucky enough to be on the receiving end of some whopping storms in February, which gives us such experiences. But this early in the winter? Snowtastic.

Could've sworn that it was illegal to ski on a road! Can't blame people mind you, even if it is daft, and you are being chased by a snow clearer.

It's not just snowy chalets and trees that look fab during the day, even peaking out of the window at night time before heading off to bed is a treat.

The great news is that this is probably turning into one of the best starts to a winter in a long time, so if you are still yet to come out for your ski holiday, don't worry you will definitely benefit from the huge snow base that is building up.

Oh, and by the way, there is yet another massive storm heading our way just as we enter into the New Year. When will it stop? Feel free to share away on social media, and spread the mh2ski blog love.
