Royal Leamington Spa welcomes Olympic Torch

Police high fiving before the Torch arrivel

Last weekend it was the turn of Royal Leamington Spa to welcome the Olympic Torch. Harriet and I live within half a mile of the route, so it seemed foolish to miss this unique opportunity of seeing the Olympic flame close-up. I dusted off Canon; Harriet organised her Aunt Patt (visiting from Croydon), and we all plodded off to what I thought was going to be a 'quiet' spot along the route.Silly me, of course at least half of the local residents had the same thing on their mind. But the atmosphere was amazing: what a friendly, festive and celebratory feel. I spoke to the local Warwickshire County Council officials and the Police, to help me establish a decent viewpoint with Canon. I'd researched on the internet, and couldn't help but notice that there were often surges of the crowd towards the flame. Fingers crossed it wouldn't end up like a sticky bun fight here in Royal Leamington Spa.

To cut a long story short, it was a fascinating experience to see the flame and be part of the whole event. For more photos and report please go to my wedding photography website, http://www.hemsleyphotography.co.uk/wedding-photo-blog/olympic-torch-documentary-photography.html . I hope you are all having a great summer.MartinP.S. Mike is in Belfast at the moment for a short break, and I'm hoping to have a chat with him as soon as he returns. Hopefully he will give a short update on how his summer is going and what he has been up to. Blowing his trumpet again no doubt.
