Méribel Summer Catch Up

A high fiving Marmotte a few weeks ago.

Hi everybody, I hope you've all had a great summer, the summer that keeps giving it seems this year. Thought it was about time that I published a post, especially now that we are heading towards cooler days and longer nights. I was very lucky again this year because I was able to squeeze in a holiday back to Méribel, in between various wedding photography commitments. My mountain bike and photography kit were carefully packed into the car along with plenty of lightweight breathable clothes to help try and keep me cool!

And my goodness, it was great being back again. The French Alps has a very different ambiance in the summer compared to the ski season. There are far fewer visitors for a start, especially up on the mountain, which gives the place a much more relaxed feeling. It feels like life is at a much slower pace, except for when one is rattling down various mountain bike routes!

The Lac de Tueda Farm

It's extraordinary to see how different the seasons can be in the mountains, and how quickly they change. I went on many hikes, when at the end of July there are still many flowers in bloom, and I was very lucky to spot some rare edelweiss again this year.

It was also a treat to observe the gorgeous little Marmottes. During the winter they hibernate underground, occasionally they might be seen in early spring just before the ski lifts close. Summertime is the season to find them.

Adorable, aren't they? It seems a long time ago now that I was there, but that's ok; I'll be back in about eleven weeks time just as the snowflakes start to fall. There was (and still is) loads of activity going on with upgrades and improvements to the ski area and lift system. So do come back in a couple of weeks because I've plenty of pictures and information on what we can benefit from and enjoy next winter. In the meantime, keep holding onto the summer as long as possible. Martin.

The Eve Of Another Winter

Hi everybody, and welcome back to another blog post on what feels like the eve of another winter. It's that time of year when department stores are stocked up with winter clothes, ski shows have mostly been and gone, and a certain Méribel ski instructor seems to be spending half of his life glued to ski related social media sites!
